How to Clean Your Reusable Face Mask
Reusable face masks are machine washable. Additionally, Jake Hardy (MB, BS (Uni Melb), virologist at the Royal Melbourne Hospital suggests using UV-C light to disinfect masks so they can be reused indefinitely. “Here at the Royal Melbourne Hospital we done extensive research and have found UV-C to be effective in destroying all pathogens, including Covid-19. We recently ordered a batch of portable UV-C sanitisers to trial and so far they have been a very effective method for disinfection of face masks and other small items such as mobile phones. A quick before and after test using an electron microscope showed that a 90 second UV-C cycle killed 100% of pathogens on the surface of a face mask or a non-porous object such as a mobile phone.,” says Hardy.
