If you’re a frequent jet-setter, you know the struggle of spending hours on a long flight not looking nor feeling like your best by the time you land. And if you’re like me and want to hit the ground running as soon as you arrive, you don’t want anything to get in the way of your travel itinerary. Thanks to these seven essentials, you won’t have to sacrifice time, health, or beauty while you travel.
1. Moisturizer
Traveling on a plane can be an invigorating and exciting experience. For one, you’re tens of thousands of feet high in the air with a bird’s eye view of the world right all to your own. Plus, it signifies the promising adventures of a new place, or the comforts of home. All in all, flying on an airplane is a pretty cool experience, but what’s not so ideal is the havoc it wreaks on your body.
Traveling in a metal tube of recycled air for hours on end not only exacerbates jet lag, but it also dries out your skin, making you feel dull and dreary on arrival. To combat this, make sure you add moisturizer to the top of your packing list—just don’t pack them in a checked bag!
A fortified formula like CBD lotion can provide lasting hydrating benefits, and as a bonus, calm your nerves if you’re feeling anxious about flying. If you’re a frequent flyer, you might opt for travel-size products, or just pick up some refillable travel bottles for TSA-approved packing.
2. Lip balm
Why does it seem like the times you desperately need chapstick, there’s none in sight? And flying high above the clouds is the last place you want to be searching for a lip balm.
3. Reusable water bottle
Speaking of hydrating, make sure you’re drinking plenty of water when you travel. Staying hydrated is important to your general health, but it’s also key to combating jet lag. That’s why I think a reusable water bottle is an absolute must. If you’re traveling abroad, you might have a harder time finding free water fountains when you’re out and about but saving on costs at the airport is well worth it. Plus, most restaurants and coffee shops will give you a refill if you ask!
4. Beauty basics
While you don’t need to be totally done up for a flight, it feels good to have a base layer on even when you’re 30,000 feet in the air. Pack some miniature versions of your favorite basic products such as:
Tinted moisturizer
Mascara
Lip tint
Mini chemical peel
Highlighter
Face mist
Eye mask
Sunscreen (window seats count as sun exposure, too!)
And don’t forget about makeup remover wipes and deodorant, you’ll be glad you have them once your long journey is complete!
5. Healthy snacks
While those complimentary salty snacks are always oh-so-tempting, they might not be doing you any good. Opting for more nourishing, fresh foods when possible, will most certainly have you feeling energetic and ready to roll once you land.
Here are some of our favorite healthy alternatives to choose for your carry-on:
Fresh fruit (apples are an excellent contender to survive the journey)
Nuts (almonds, cashews, and pistachios are delicious and nutritious)
Dried fruit
Popcorn
6. Supplements
While food provides much of the vitamins and minerals we need, sometimes we miss on these essentials while we’re traveling. To make up for what’s missed, pack a few supplements along for the ride. Here are some helpful options:
Melatonin will help you get your beauty rest on long travel days.
Vitamin C keeps your immune system strong.
Probiotics keep your digestive system in check.
Multivitamins are a simple, straightforward solution to ensure you’re getting the nutrients you need.
7. A change of clothes
There’s nothing better than getting off a plane and cleaning up with a change of clothes—especially if you have multiple connecting flights! A quick revamp of your outfit leaves you feeling like a fresher and more fashionable version of yourself.
Bonus: Pain-relief gel
Most of the time, traveling involves a lot of walking long distances, so prepare for aching feet at the end of the day. You don’t need to bear the pain, however. When traveling, bring a pain-relieving gel to soothe sore feet and muscles after exploring because rest isn’t always enough to get rid of the pain."
