Cold weather skin tips and my review of Azul Blue Diamond Hydrating Treatment Shield
By Carla Snuggs
Cold weather and air conditioning can cause our skin to dry out because the air is drier. I live in sunny San Diego by the beach. Some days it’s perfect and other days, that cold, crisp ocean air can chill you to the bone. I also like to sleep with my air conditioner on no matter what temperature it is. I know that’s a bad habit. I’m working on it!
Azul Skin Health sent me their Azul Blue Diamond Hydrating Treatment Shield. I really wanted to share with you some tips for how to protect your skin during cold weather because before you know it, it will be fall/winter. I sourced Dr. Jennifer Trent, MD FAAD, US-based Board-Certified Dermatologist and medical writer for ZELEN Life Blog.
Here are Dr. Trent’s tips to help protect your skin and keep it looking good during cold weather”
1. Do not take long hot showers because this will increase moisture loss and lead to worsen of your dry skin.
2. Do not use soaps. Instead use mild moisturizing cleansers. Soaps are too alkaline and can strip the skin of natural oils that keep us moisturized.
3.. Use a thicker moisturizer with ceramides to help repair the lipid barrier in our skin. When our barrier is compromised form cold weather, that can lead to loss of moisture and subsequently dry skin.
4. You may have to moisturize more frequently than in warm weather. All skin types normally need to moisture twice a day to keep skin healthy.
5. Use sunscreen every day and reapply every 1-2 hours that you are outside. Just because it's cold, it doesn't mean you cannot get image from UV rays of the sun. Select a brand spectrum sunscreen with UVA and UVB coverage with an SPF of 50.

Frigid temps and low humidity are caused by weather in the winter and air conditioning in the summer. Both can leave skin dry, itchy, and chapped. These detrimental skin conditions can be intensified when wearing a mask to guard from COVID-19. In response to these tricky skin situations comes this hydrating treatment shield that restores moisture and balance and soothes skin irritated by the environment and mask-wearing. Backed by clinical testing, Syricalm® is naturally soothing herbal extracts that help to reduce redness, inflammation, and irritation. Pentavitin® is a natural saccharide that hydrates for up to 72 hours while Ceramides support the recovery and maintenance of the skin’s protective barrier. Crafted with a potent blend of Hyaluronic Acid, this product moisturizes through multiple layers of the skin decreasing fine lines, irritability, and flakiness. Shop: Azulskinhealth.com
My thoughts/review:
I have been doing a pretty good job of keeping my skin moisturized during cooler weather. I try not to stay in hot water too long, limiting my hot showers to about 10 minutes. I use a fantastic moisturizing cleanser, Azul’s Decadent Shower Oil. I moisturize twice a day with Azul’s Revitalizing Body Oil. And I also use a SPF 50 sunscreen. The one thing that has been missing is a thicker moisturizer with Ceramides. Azul Blue Diamond Hydrating Treatment Shield contains Ceramides (Phospholipids & Sphingolipids) that strengthen the skin barrier.
I’ve been using this treatment shield as an overnight therapy and I have to say, I love the results. After wearing a mask all day, I’m not gonna lie, my skin is distressed. This relieves any itching and reduced any irritation I may have. It’s especially soothing after I’ve been out at the beach all day or when I’ve been doing an outdoor workout in cold temps. My skin feels so hydrated, I’m guessing due to the Pentavitin® in the treatment which helps your skin retain moisture for up to 72 hours. I love the beautiful light scent and of course I love that it is green and clean! On a scale of 1 to 10, I am giving this one a 10. I definitely have some friends up in the Great White North who I will be recommending this to. Keep your skin hydrated, friends!
