A homemade organic lavender sugar scrub recipe
By Carla Snuggs
Browsing popular DIY websites, I came across Kimbettasso.com and was inspired by all of the wonderful DIY projects you can find there. One of my favorite DIY projects by Kim Bettasso is Turn Your Empty Wine Bottles into a Miniature Garden. I love DIY projects that are organic, eco-friendly, easy and inexpensive.
Because I am a body scrub, foot scrub and lip scrub addict, I decided to see what was in my pantry and whipped up this lavender sugar scrub using 3 simple ingredients.
Ingredients
- 1/2 cup organic coconut oil
- 1/4 cup organic coconut sugar*
- 1/4 teaspoon organic lavender essential oil
*If you don’t have organic coconut sugar, substitute granulated sugar
Directions
Step 1: In a medium bowl, combine all ingredients.
Step 2: Spoon into storage container.
I love this sugar scrub because it it’s a great way to gently exfoliate your skin this summer. This lavender sugar scrub is chock-full of natural, organic ingredients, many of which you probably already have in your kitchen. According to many dermatologists, lavender essential oil is one of the most beneficial oils in the treatment of acne. The lavender scent is mild, yet heavenly and very soothing. Coconut oil hydrates dry skin while coconut sugar gently removes dead skin to reveal beautiful, radiant skin. I also love that this body scrub is multifunctional – you can use it on your face, hands, legs and feet!
Here are a few ways to use this lavender sugar scrub:
As a face scrub: Massage into the face in circular motions for 30 seconds. Rinse and pat dry.
Instant manicure: Massage into your hands and fingernails for 30 seconds. Rinse and pat dry.
Foot scrub: While sitting in the bathtub or sitting on the side of the bathtub, massage onto feet and legs. Rinse and pat dry. You can also prepare a small basin of warm water and soak your feet in it as you relax in your favorite chair. Massage the scrub into your feet, and then rinse and pat dry. (Do not use in the shower, as the coconut oil is slippery and you risk a slip and fall).
