New Year’s Eve is just a few days away! If you could use fresh holiday makeup ideas, keep reading: We tapped Makeup artist Adhari Edwards from Gloss and Shadow to do a glamorous and fun New Year’s Eve makeup tutorial.
But before we get into the tutorial, Adhari provides the following key holiday makeup tips:
Tip 1: It's the holidays so play around and have FUN!! Makeup shouldn't be that serious, so even if you throw on a fab red lip you'll seem right in time with the season.
Tip 2. Wear waterproof mascara and eyeliner! In this cold weather, our eyes get moist/teary-eyed very quickly so waterproofing your eyes will help you avoid you looking like you are crying because your in-laws are in town.
Tip 3: Add a little liquid highlighter to your face and let your holiday glow shine.
Here’s how to get the look step by step:
Step 1: Start by dabbing a primer onto the eyelid. Adhari used Urban Decay Primer Potion which is one of her absolute favorite primers to use because it keeps the shadow on all night long
Step 2: Pat a white matte eye shadow onto the lid and then add a soft brown into the crease for depth. Adhari used a white matte shadow from coastal scents 88 palette.
Step 3: Add a cobalt or navy blue shadow (Adhari used a shimmer shadow) into the crease and blend with a 222 taper brush from MAC. Next, dab a matte bright blue into the outer corner which will highlight the white and the shimmery blue.
Step 4: Apply glitter with a synthetic hair brush dipped in water and dipped right into white/silver glitter (MAC). “The trick with glitter application is to gently pat it onto the lid DO NOT RUB IT IN HARSHLY unless you want glitter all over your face,” says Adhari.
Step 5: Line the lower lash line with the same bright blue eye shadow and then add a teal glitter on top with a gel liner brush.
Step 6: Add mascara and individual lashes on the outer corners. “As you can see, I opted not to use a liner on top as I wanted the focus on the sparkle of the glitter,” explains Adhari.
Step 7: The lips! When pulling off such a bold look with 2 types of glitter, keep the lip simple. “Here I lined my lips with NYX cappuccino lip liner and then filled it in with NYX Pale Pink for a matte finish but in the final look I added a sheer pink gloss just to give my lips a bit more pout.”
The result: simply gorgeous!
