Not everyone is a gardener, but most people will enjoy spending time in their gardens, especially in summer. So, regardless of your skills or enjoyment when it comes to gardening, here are several top tips to help you prepare your garden for summer.
De-weed your garden
If you are an avid gardener, then you probably keep on top of the weeds in your garden. However, if you are not then it is likely that you have a few weeds creeping up now that winter is over. Weeding is one of those jobs that feels like a lot of effort but in reality, isn’t. In actual fact the effort you put in versus the end result is extraordinary. It is quite incredible how something as simple as weeding your garden will help massively transform the look and feel of your garden.
Consider your privacy
As summer approaches, many people will take to their gardens to enjoy the sun and warmer weather. However, more people will also likely be walking past your home and looking into your garden to see what is going on. If this is something that bothers you then you could consider altering, upgrading, or changing your property’s boundary protection. Some people like to do this with hedges, other fences, or screens. A common go-to is slat fencing as this doesn’t make you feel closed in or cause too much shade, yet helps to obscure the vision of any nosy passers-by.
Prepare and plant flowers
One of the nicest additions to a garden, especially in summer is having a selection of flowers blooming. Not only will these flowers help make your garden look beautiful, but they will also hugely benefit your local nature and ecosystem. It doesn’t take much effort to plant and water them, and the results are well worth the effort. There are many different types of plants, or flowers to choose from. If you are new to gardening then do a little research into low-maintenance plants that you could try out this year, and who knows, maybe you will enjoy it and get more the following year.
General maintenance
If you have a little more time or love for your garden than just weeding, then there are several other general maintenance things you can do to help prepare your garden for summer. Mowing the grass is one of them, as is cutting back any large, overgrowing, or protruding bushes that you may have. Look to see if you can tidy up any scruffy areas where your lawn may meet either flowerbeds, vegetable gardens, or paving slabs and concrete. These small maintenance jobs will really help transform the look and feel of your garden, and what’s more, is that none of them really take that long to do.
No matter what the state your garden is in, how big or small the task is, there will always be something you can do to help it get that little bit closer to being ready for summer. So, why not see if you can fit in doing one of these tasks?
