Posh Beauty Blog suggests Local Montreal Tours
By Carla Snuggs
One of my favorite things to do when I visit a new city is take a walking food tour. I love to sample the local fare, learn more about the city, and get in a little bit of exercise. I had been to Montreal, Canada a handful of times, but had never taken a Montreal food tour.
After a little research, I discovered Local Montreal Tours. Local Montreal Tours was my tour company of choice because they offer food tours with an emphasis on the culture and the history of the neighborhood.
I had never visited The Mile End of Montreal, so when I read the description, “The Mile End sector is a thriving community of musicians, artists and young entrepreneurs,” I knew I had to learn more! The Mile End Food Tour includes 6 food stops for a total of 12 bites, along with a visit to an antique theatre. It’s a 3 hour tour that covers about 1.4 miles, so I was sure to wear super comfy shoes. I also arrived on an empty stomach, so I had plenty of room in my tummy to devour all of the goodies.
Upon arrival at our meeting spot, Panthere Verte, Vera, our tour guide, greeted us. There were about 12 of us on the tour and we all spent a spent a little time introducing ourselves – it was such a diverse and cozy group! Vera was a fabulous host; she was upbeat, energetic, knowledgeable and very passionate about Quebec’s fine local products! As we strolled through the lively streets of Mile End, we learned about what makes Mile End unique and I fell in love with neighborhood - so charming, and definitely a foodie’s dream!
Stop 1: We started out at Panthere Verte where we treated to the most amazing falafel sandwich. Aptly, the falafel here is named “Montreal’s best falafel”. The homemade pita was also superb. This was easily one of my favorite stops on the tour.

Stop 2: Chocolats Geneviève Grandbois. Here, I sampled some of the most delicious salted caramels - just melt-in-your-mouth amazing! Such a delightful little shop.

top 3: We then continued on to St-Viateur Bagel. You have not had a bagel until you’ve had a hand-rolled, fresh-out-of-the-oven bagel with chocolate cream cheese in Mile End Montreal. It was so fascinating to see the process of bagel-making. World’s Best Bagel? I’d say so!

Stop 4: Theater Rialto: Oh, Theater Rialto, one of the most beautiful theaters I’ve ever laid eyes upon! It’s one of Montreal’s most iconic buildings. I was in awe!
Stop 5: Drogheria Fine. This was where my mouth watered the most! This homestyle kitchen specializes in authentic Italian sauce (owner Franco Grattuso’s family recipe). We were treated to with homemade gnocchi topped with this incredible pasta sauce I felt like I’d died and gone to heaven!

Stop 6: Bouchurie Lawrence – A Mile End butcher shop that offers specialty charcuteries, locally-raised, happy meat and some of the finest cheeses, dairy, eggs and condiments. We were presented with a special selection of meats and cheeses and I fell in love with the fennel sausage.

Stop 7: Our last stop was Kem Coba Ice Cream where I gave in to my sweet tooth! I enjoyed an exquisite combination of Mango Sorbet and Dulce de Leche Ice Cream. It was so refreshing and a great way to cap off the walk.
