The idea of taking CBD can be daunting, particularly because there’s a lot of confusion over whether CBD drops get you high. Because CBD is produced through compounds found in the cannabis plant, many people believe that it’s the same substance as marijuana, but this is not the case. In this blog, we’ll break down the myths surrounding what taking CBD really feels like and the misconceptions around whether it makes you high.
What is CBD?
CBD is the shortened name for Cannabidiol, a compound found in the hemp plant – Cannabis sativa L. CBD comes in a range of strengths depending on the severity of your symptoms and there are many products to choose from, such as Vitabiotics CBD drops which you take orally, to creams and gels which can be applied topically.
It’s become popular in recent years because it’s beneficial in helping people who have anxiety and depression, pain and inflammation, muscle spasms and even digestive difficulties such as IBS. CBD is a naturally occurring substance that makes us feel calm and relaxed, but unlike a similar compound found in the hemp plant, THC (which is the active ingredient in marijuana), CBD doesn’t bring on psychoactive effects.
Will I Get High from CBD?
It’s easy to see why people might think CBD provides a high given the plant it’s produced from but no, you will not get high from CBD. Even when using a higher strength CBD product, there is no THC found in them which is the active ingredient that we associate with that ‘high’ from cannabis. CBD is a non-psychoactive compound which makes it completely legal and safe to take.
There are three types of natural CBD compound – CBD isolate, full-spectrum CBD and broad-spectrum CBD. Isolate is the purest of all three and THC-free, so it can become part of your daily routine without the risk of getting you high. The other two types of CBD may contain other cannabinoids and these may include THC, which could induce a cannabis-like high, but CBD is not the same as medical cannabis or cannabis oil.
What Effects Might I Notice from CBD?
There’s no single answer to this question, as it depends on the product you’re using and the strength of the CBD – CBD affects everyone differently. The touted benefits of CBD are its pain-relieving effects and calming qualities that can help with the likes of inflammation, anxiety and pain. The most common form of CBD is drops which are taken sublingually, allowing the product to be absorbed into the salivary glands and into your bloodstream.
It’s best to start off slowly and build up to higher doses to allow your body to adjust to the compound – we recommend starting with 7 drops, twice daily, and building up once you’ve noted how your body reacts. However, it’s not recommended that you take more than 70mg per day. Pregnant or breastfeeding women should also avoid CBD, and those under 18 years of age.
