To help you improve your quality of sleep, it is important that you do all of the right things before you go to bed to get you in a relaxed mindset and ready to drift off. Bedtime should be the time of day when you are unwinding and getting into total relaxation mode, so it makes sense that you should only do things that support this. If you ever have any trouble sleeping at night, here are a few tips that could help you get deeper and better sleep, enabling you to wake up feeling well rested.
Have a Massage
One way to become more relaxed is to make sure your body feels calm and not too excitable. A great way to do this is to have a massage, which helps to ensure your muscles donβt feel too tight and will physically get your body out of work mode and into sleep mode. This is particularly useful if you have been working throughout the day. Whether this is in an office or on a building site, massages are great before bed because they will keep your back and shoulders in a good state while helping you to relax.
Read a Book
As well as making your body physically tired, you should try and make sure your eyes are tired too, and a great way to do this is to read a book before you go to sleep. Reading is great eye exercise as well as brain exercise, in a relaxing way rather than in a stimulating way. It is recommended that you try and find a good book that you are interested in so that you feel motivated to do this in the evenings. Once you feel as though you are getting involved in the plot, you can get excited about what happens next.
It is recommended that you try and read for about half an hour before going to sleep. This is enough time to help you tire yourself out and allow you to sleep well. Not only will reading help you to sleep better, it Is really educational and it is said that reading little yet often increases your vocabulary and general intelligence, so it is a great habit to pick up.
Stay Away from Screens
One of the main reasons you may be struggling to sleep is because you use screens right before going to sleep. Whether this is your phone, your laptop, or the television, the bright lights in screens are the opposite of relaxing. Instead, they will make your brain super switched on and functioning, which is definitely not what you want when you are trying to settle down in the evening. For at least half an hour before you actually close your eyes to go to sleep, try not looking at any screen and you will immediately start to notice the quality of your sleep drastically improve.
If you do absolutely need to send a late-night text or check your emails, you should switch your phone to night mode, which makes the colors on your screen less harsh.
Getting a good sleep is really important to keep your body healthy and functioning properly. If the quality of your sleep is really good, it means you can wake up earlier the next morning to do something productive, whereas if you are sleep deprived you will almost certainly need a lie in. Having a good sleep can also positively affect your mood. It is well known that under slept people often wake up grumpy, so why not take some steps to avoid this from happening so you and the people around you can enjoy their day more?
