If you've got high-maintenance hair, you might think camping is off the cards for you. It doesn't have to be! With a combination of clever camping tricks and good hair products, you can still have stylish hair every day, even if you're getting ready in a tent in the mornings. Here are our top 5 hacks for stylish hair on a camping trip!
1. Get Your Shower Situation Sorted
If you're camping far away from a shower block, you may be starting to worry about how you'll wash your hair. You can set up a shower yourself, using a camping shower tent.
This small tent gives you a bit of extra privacy away from your main tent. You can use this tent to shower, either using water (you can warm your water a little using a camping stove, or you can have a cold shower) or using a solar-powered shower. These are small bags with a hose attached to them, which you can leave out in the sun to warm up throughout the day. This way, even if you don't have access to your normal styling tools, you can at least make sure your hair will be clean.

2. Bring Some Supplies
Luckily, there are some clever hair products out there that will make camping much easier on your hair. While you may not have room for all your styling products, there are a few essentials that you should look into bringing:
Dry shampoo - this is a lifesaver if you don't have time or access to a shower each day. You can find a dry shampoo for your hair type - whether you have straight hair, curly hair, oily hair, or dry hair, there's a product out there to suit you. You can even find a 2-in-1 dry shampoo with conditioner which is a nice space-saving product.
Leave-in conditioner - if access to water is an issue, you may not have time to condition your hair in the shower. In this case, a leave-in conditioner is a great option to keep your hair in great condition.
Hair oil - hair oil can be used for lots of things. Use it as a hair treatment, to smooth frizzy or flyaway hairs, and to soothe hair if you don't have access to a conditioner. If you have oily hair, you may want to skip this, but those with dry hair will find a hair oil useful.
Shower cap - if you want to leave your hair as long as possible between washes, a shower cap is a must-have! That way you can use dry shampoo in between.
3. Get your haircut before you go
While you might not think of this as a necessity before a camping trip, a quick trip to the salon could be a nice pre-camping treat. You'll leave with freshly cut hair in excellent condition, and you can ask for a deep-conditioning treatment too, which is a nice bonus if you won't have access to your normal hair products for a while.
4. Protect your hair
You can protect your hair by tying it up and out of the way. This is also really useful if you're camping in hot weather, as it will keep your hair out of your way. Keeping it simple is key, so go for standard braids, buns, and ponytails if you want to avoid spending lots of time on your hair in the mornings. Make sure you bring a bundle of hair ties, and you're good to go.
If you don't have access to your hairdryer, braids are a good option if you want to encourage tousled beachy waves. Braid it when wet, then shake it loose when dry. You can apply a little hair oil on the ends to keep your hair in good condition.
Finally, don't forget to neglect your scalp. It's easily forgotten, but when you're out in the sun, make sure you apply sunscreen to your scalp or wear a hat. This will help to protect your hair from the sun.
5. Treat your hair when you get home
Once you're home, unpacked, and relaxed, now is the time to treat your hair and allow it to recuperate. A thorough scalp massage is a good first step. You can use a scalp brush for this - they are designed to help remove a build-up of products, which is great if you've been using a lot of dry shampoo. You can also use a deep-conditioning treatment, which should help your hair to look beautiful, soft, and shiny again - even if you've been out in all kinds of tough weather conditions.
Hopefully, these tips will keep your hair in great shape, so you (and your hair!) can relax and enjoy your next camping adventure!
