Tracksets have been the focal point of streetwear and streetstyle since the beginning. They have been a staple of sport stars, celebrities, and common folk just like you and me. But they’re not just for lounging around in – they can be a fashion statement as well. Let’s take a look at when the trackset first came into production.
History of track sets
Way back in 1939, a French company called Le Coq Sportif created what they called the ‘Sunday suit’. But it wasn’t until the 1960’s that the trackset we know and love today was invented.
In 1967 Adidas, the now notorious sports brand, created their first trackset in collaboration with the footballer Franz Beckenbauer. This got the ball rolling and then as the 70’s rolled around, tracksets were less practical and more of a fashion statement.
Once jogging and personal fitness in general were starting to become commonplace, as did the trackset. From then on, tracksets became the uniform of hip hop artists and became a statement about not wanting to fit the mold. And with that, tracksets became a fashion statement and staple for any wardrobe.
How to style your trackset
There is no right or wrong way to style your trackset. The best way to style something is using your own individual style. But if you’re really stuck, we can take you through some tips on how to style a trackset so you always look and feel your best.
Stick to one color/tone
The easiest way to style a trackset and keep it fresh is to focus on your color palette. A matching trackset always works best and when it comes to accessories, keeping the same color or tone will tie your look together. If you’re struggling to style your trackset, simplify it. Stay neutral with colors such as black, white or a shade of beige and build up to louder colors later.
Wear sneakers for a more relaxed look
Sneakers are the backbone of street style so adding them to your trackset will help complete the look. This is where you can be bold with your style choice. If you’ve got an all-black tracksuit, why not style it with some bold colored sneakers or even a funky pattern. This will give your look some personality and an edge. But there is nothing wrong with a block color look either! All white or all black always looks sleek and is perfect if you’re heading out in a rush.
Wear boots if you’re feeling edgy
If you are feeling like you need to give your trackset some edge, add a chunky boot. Some Dr Martens or platform boots will toughen up a trackset. They’re also super practical! If you’re going to be out and about in the rain or if there’s a chill in the air, boots are the way to go. You can tuck one leg into the boot and keep the other out for a relaxed yet edgy vibe.
Dress it up for a night out
Don’t be afraid to go big and bold! Tracksets aren’t just for comfort; you can literally wear them anywhere – even on a night out. It’s been seen before on the likes of Kim K – and if it’s good enough for Kim then it’s good enough for us! Simply choose your favorite trackset, a short or long one depending on your preference. This works best with a block color rather than a pattern and then you can accessorize with your favorite bag and heels. Keep the top open and wear a crop top or even just a bra (if you’re feeling adventurous) and maybe add a touch of lipstick for some extra pizazz. The look we’re going for is the Kim K Yeezy era so use this aesthetic as your inspiration.
No matter what your personal style is, there is always room for a trackset. From running errands to a night out on the town, there’s nowhere a trackset won’t fit in. Why not add one to your wardrobe today?
