When it comes to baby bags, one can never be too careful. There are numerous types of baby bags. Some offer greater utility, while others focus more on the style department. Being a parent I prefer something like a backpack or a messenger bag so that my hands are free to handle the little one.
But all baby bags were not created equal. It comes down to what you prefer; size, portability, or style. Usually, you can get two of those in a diaper bag. But all three are very hard to find in a single diaper bag.
To give you a better idea of baby bags and their types, I have compiled a list of various types of baby bags, their pros, and cons along with my own personal opinions about them.
The Backpack
Itβs a backpack. A bag you wear on your back. According to Bluebird Baby, more than 70% of moms likely to choose a diaper backpack. These have compartments that help you keep things organized. They are also larger and can carry more items. Backpacks come with two arm straps and are perfect for a trip or for parents that have more than one baby to deal with!
Totes and Traditional Diaper bags
These two can easily be mistaken for being the same thing. While both share the same size, Totes generally have larger pockets. A traditional diaper bag is made to be carried in oneβs hands, while a tote can be carried over the shoulder. A tote is generally more fashionable too, thus making the perfect accessory for fashionable moms carrying baby essentials.
Traditional diaper bags, however, have their own flair. They are just what a parent needs. They are well thought out and are perfect for parents that carry supplies for more than one baby.
Satchel Diaper bags
It is usually smaller and more portable than totes and traditional baby bags. Unfortunately, satchels typically have 2 or 3 pockets and come with elbow straps, although, some satchels do have a shoulder strap. These are perfect for elegant moms carrying only the essentials.
Hobos and Messenger Bags
Think of a hobo as a tote and messenger bag combined. These are great for casual use. Hobos look like a knapsack with a shoulder strap. It typically hangs on the shoulder and looks a bit messy in a good way. With its unique style and different approach, it is perfect for adventurous parents that love long drive and adventure trips.
Messenger bags have a much sleeker and organized look. They are great for carrying all your baby essentials as they have a lot of compartments; they have a zipper and overlapping closure as well as a shoulder strap. All in all, the perfect bag for dads and their babies!
The Clutch
Clutches cannot fit a lot in terms of changing supplies. They are very small compared to baby bags and look like a large wallet. The only thing you can carry in a clutch is a changing pad. These often come as an accessory with the diaper bag. Ideal for shopping and travel.
