5 Makeup and Fragrance Tips
Spring is around the corner, and summer is not too far away either. But no matter which place you live in and what season you are currently enjoying, these five makeup and fragrance tips are useful for all seasons and events.
Start Fresh:
Have you ever looked at your face after applying makeup, and all you can see is dry skin patches or oil coming through layers and layers of makeup? Do you hate when your lipstick looks chapped JUST after you have put it on? The reason is that you might not have cleaned your skin correctly beforehand.
Wash your face with a deep cleanser. Now, if you have dry skin, you must use a mild scrub every day and especially before applying makeup. This way, you can get rid of the dead skin that creates unnecessary textures.
Nowadays, chemical exfoliation has gain popularity; the name might scare you. But in actuality, conventional face scrub with granules does more damage than any chemical exfoliator. So get a good quality chemical exfoliator that suits your skin type.
For people who have oily skin, face products with oil removing properties are better. Yes, oily skin needs exfoliation too, but not as often as dry skin. Use a quick clay face mask before applying makeup as it sucks up all of the excess oil and gives you a fresh canvas to work on.
If you have normal skin, congratulations, you can just wash your face, and that is it. But you will need to use masks and scrubs once a week. And no matter which skin type you have, finish it all of with a good moisturizer before moving in toward makeup.
Powder Vs. Crème Product:
Have you ever just walked in a makeup store and picked up whatever product you liked JUST based on the color and tone? If your answer is “Yes”, you are doing it all wrong. For makeup to look good, you must understand which product is best for which skin and which season.
Take this example; if you have dry skin, powders will emphasize dryness. Meanwhile, cream products will make you look fresh and youthful. If you are dealing with oily skin due to genetics or hormonal imbalance, cream products will only worsen up the oiliness. So, you should use powders.
In the same sense, if you are gifted with normal skin with no texture, you still should not use whatever products you like. In summer, it is best to go for powders as they last longer. But if you wear creams in summer and end up sweating, it would be a mess. Creams are best for winters as they provide extra moisture and make skin look plump and healthy.
Less is More:
We all spent HOURS on Instagram looking at those makeup gurus that look phenomenal with heavy layers of makeup. But how many times have you tried to copy the style and end up looking like a kid’s birthday party clown? If you face been there, do not beat yourself and think your makeup skills are not better than a kindergarten student. It not your fault, not at all.
The Instagram makeup is called that for a reason, and it looks good ONLY on Instagram because of the good lighting and heavy editing. No matter how much time you spend at blending that contour into the foundation, the moment you step in the real world, you are going to look like a melted plastic popsicle.
So, it is advised to use less product. If your skin is good, you do not need to use a full coverage foundation. For dark circles, do not go for that infamous triangle, apply concealer in dots, and use only a small amount. Eyebrow pomade? Unless you know how to work with it, DO NOT USE IT. Go for an eyebrow pencil or eyebrow gel instead.
In short, when it comes to makeup, less is more, so keep that in mind while getting ready tomorrow.
Moisturize Before Applying Perfume:
Do you bathe in your favorite scent all the time and have emptied the bottle, yet you still can not smell it after an hour or so? The problem is not in the perfume; you are applying it wrong. If you spray perfume straight on your dry skin, it will evaporate before you can even enjoy the smell of it.
It is advised to moisturize the skin before applying perfume. Any lotion would do the job, but for even more better results, use petroleum jelly. The jelly is thick and holds perfume for longer, which is the reason that the smells last for hours after first spraying it. Also, make sure you’re using high-quality perfumes, my personal favorite is the Aventus Creed perfume.
Spray at the Right Spots:
Many people do not know that spraying perfume on their clothes or just on the wrist is not enough. There are several places on your body that are most suitable for spraying perfume. They are most likely to hold on the scent than other but parts. The most famous spot to spray perfume is the wrist. We see it in commercials and movies all the time. Apply a thin layer of petroleum jelly and then spray the perfume on your wrists, do not rub it. Let the petroleum jelly absorb every last droplet of perfume.
There are some other spots too that makes the perfume last longer but are not that famous and quite unusual. For instance, did you know that spraying perfume in hair is a real thing? You do not have to apply it directly on the hair though, spray your hairbrush and then brush your hair, collar bone, lower neck, and the spot behind both ears are also great for holding perfume. The other spots are the inner side of the elbow, belly button, backside of knee, and ankles.
The logic is that throughout the day, these places get naturally hot. That heat mixes with the perfume and emits the scent that makes you smell fresh all day long.
