The Benefits of Vaping Over Smoking

Quitting smoking can have so many health benefits. One popular way to quit is to take up vaping instead. Vaping can be a good substitute because it still gives you the feeling of inhaling something. But are there really any benefits to vaping? Will vaping cost you more money? And is it really any healthier? This post delves more into some of the reasons why vaping could be a better option.

Vaping is cheaper than smoking

A good reason to switch to vaping is the cost. Whether you buy disposable vape pens or e-liquids for a refillable vape pen, you’re likely to save huge amounts of money each year. In fact, if you smoke a pack of cigarettes a day, you could spend 92% less per year by switching to vaping.

If you’re investing in vape mods and premium juices, then it is possible to spend a lot more money. However, by and large, vaping will still be cheaper.

Vaping won’t make you smell as bad

Cigarette smoke lingers on clothes and can make your breath smell like cigarettes. By switching to vaping, you could get rid of this odor.

Vaping does still have a scent, but it is sweeter and more pleasant. It doesn’t linger on clothes and won’t affect your breath as much as smoking (although it can still dry out your mouth, which could cause bad breath if you’re not regularly drinking fluids).

Vapes are available in many different flavors

There’s much more variety in flavors when it comes to e-liquids than modern cigarettes. Tobacco flavored e-liquids are an option, but there are so many other alternatives.

Some of these flavors can even have added effects. For example, Delta 11 THC flavors can provide mild pain relief, while flavors like lavender and chamomile can help with sleep.

Vaping won’t expose your body to as many chemicals

Cigarettes are believed to contain a deadly mix of 7000 chemicals. While the amount of chemicals in an e-cigarette are much harder to calculate  - especially as e-liquid can vary so much - studies have found that there are not nearly as many toxic chemicals present, and those toxins which are present are in much lower amounts.

Some researchers have suggested that vaping is 95% safer than smoking. There is still a health risk associated with vaping. However it is much lower.

There are many nicotine-free options

Vaping can be a good way to wean yourself off of nicotine. There are low nicotine vape options for lowering your exposure to nicotine, as well as nicotine-free e-liquids. By giving up nicotine, you reduce the risk of many circulatory issues such as heart disease and strokes.

It’s worth noting that nicotine-free herbal cigarettes do exist. However, these are not as widely available as nicotine-free vapes.

Are there still health hazards to vaping?

It would be irresponsible to claim that vaping has no health risks. While greater research is still needed to fully understand the health risks of vaping, it is clear that someone who vapes is still at greater risk of developing a respiratory disease than someone who doesn’t vape or smoke. Even if you’re sticking to nicotine-free vapes, you’re still pumping foreign chemicals into your lungs. There have been no cases of lung cancer yet as a direct result of vaping, however it is clear that vaping does contain many carcinogenic chemicals like formaldehyde that you need to be wary of.

When taking up vaping as an alternative to smoking, it’s important to not increase your usage, as you could end up reducing any health benefits. Try to take vape breaks just as you would take smoke breaks. This means that if you’re currently smoking five cigarettes per day, you should plan to only vape five times per day.

Even better, continue to reduce your usage after switching to vapes. Vaping could be a healthy way to quit inhaling substances altogether if you’re willing to regularly decrease your usage. This could be particularly important if you’ve already been diagnosed with a lung condition as a direct result of smoking.

Ultimately, the healthiest way to give up smoking is to go cold turkey and not try to inhale anything as a substitute. However, this is very difficult to do - most people need another habit to fill the gap. Chewing gum, eating seeds and listening to music are a few other replacement habits that people take up to help quit smoking. These could be healthier than vaping.
