The Benefits of Soy Candles

The benefits of using soy candles instead of paraffin
By Carla Snuggs

If you love candles like I do, and you’re wondering about the advantages of using soy candles as opposed to regular paraffin candles, you’re in luck! Lori Hill, President of Sister Eden, shared The Great Candle Showdown with me.

In The Great Candle Showdown, Lori did a "burn off" that compares soy and beeswax candles to paraffin candles. There is also a blog post that includes research to support the facts.

Here are some points from the video on the benefits of soy candles

  • When you burn paraffin candles they release soot and carcinogens

  • Paraffin candles may be cheaper, but soy and beeswax candles last longer

  • Scented candles in particular can contain harmful chemicals

You can watch the Great Candle Showdown below:

Now that you know about the benefits of soy candles, check out some of Posh Beauty Blog’s favorite soy candles!

Aurorae Pledge Candle

Recently, I had the opportunity to try Aurorae's 100% Soy Wax Scented Meditation Candles. These all-natural soy wax candles give off a clean burn (no black smoke) for 30-35 hours and a beautiful scent that provides the perfect relaxation atmosphere. These 6.8 oz. all-natural soy wax candles comes in a  recyclable tin-container. The Pledge Candle is currently available in nine scents, plus three new scents coming in October 2014: Lavender (Harmony), Vanilla (Compassion), Eucalyptus (Healing), Rose (Patience), Chocolate (Love) & Cinnamon (Creativity), Ocean (Perseverance), Tropical (Peace) and Passion Raspberry (Spirit). I tried the Eucalyptus (healing) candle and it one of my favorites to use when meditating ($14.95, Auroraeyoga.com).

LATHER Aromatherapy Candles

Natural beauty brand LATHER offers a number of aromatherapy candles  specially formulated with a paraffin-free, 100% soy wax that burns toxin-free and carcinogen-free. This wax burns at a lower temperature and more slowly than beeswax. They do not contain any petroleum by-products and the wicks are cotton core, free of lead and zinc. The fragrances are all-natural, comprised only of pure essential oils, which offer aromatherapy benefits (4 oz. candles, $10, Lather.com).

Diamond Candles

Not only are Diamond Candles made out of soy wax, but they also provide a fun and exciting 'ringreveal' experience. Each Diamond Candle comes with a ring and once the candle is burned it reveals a ring that you can wear for months and years to come ($24.95, Diamondcandles.com).

I also love Lucia Bay 'Blood Orange' Soy Candles and Archipelago Botanicals Signature Soy Wax Candles in sage
